The Company
Since its foundation in 1953, Walter Heindl GmbH has been an active family-run player on the Austrian confectionary market. In 1987, the sons of the company’s founder and master confectioner Walter Heindl Sr., confectioner Walter and master confectioner Andreas took over the day-to-day management of the family business and expanded the confectionary offer to more than 180 different products. In 2006, Walter Heindl GmbH acquired PISCHINGER – a company well-known and highly popular for its delicious wafer specialties. Today, all HEINDL and PISCHINGER goods are produced at the joint production facilities in the 23rd district of Vienna. The HEINDL group runs more than 30 confectionary shops throughout the whole of Austria, having become one of the biggest national confectionary retailers and also an international player exporting its products to countries all over the globe. HEINDL confectionary is either sold directly at HEINDL shops, each of which is supplied with fresh products several times a week, or via sales and trading partners both within Austria and abroad.
The Challenge
In the course of the takeover of PISCHINGER, Multidata’s long-standing customer HEINDL decided to upgrade its Enterprise Resource Planning solution (ERP) from version 3 to MD-Premium.NET as the data of the newly acquired company had to be integrated into HEINDL’s system and their consolidation provided an ideal opportunity to simultaneously upgrade to Multidata’s latest ERP solution.
Among other tools, MD-Premium.NET’s default package includes a manufacturing solution that ideally meets the specific requirements of the confectionary producer. As such, this solution enables HEINDL to manage list of ingredients and recipes via production sets. What is more, Multidata’s ERP solution also complies with the International Food Standard which constitutes another key advantage.
For a company the size of HEINDL, which runs more than 30 shops throughout Austria, cooperates with distribution partners in Europe, Asia, the US, Canada, South Africa and Australia and processes an annual total of 2,000 tonnes in raw material, topics such as warehousing and logistics are especially relevant next to production matters. To automate warehousing, Multidata has implemented a state-of-the-art scanning system, which enables the electronic recording of all inbound and outbound goods.
For analyses and evaluations, HEINDL uses the integrated Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) tool that provides easy-to-create, transparent statistical reports and multidimensional evaluations with HEINDL itself attributing major importance to sales statistics.
Further customer-specific requirements, such as the integration of the GS1-128 code, have been enabled through the creation of additional reports with the help of Multidata’s state-of-the-art, highly flexible reporting solution Crystal Reports, which is fully integrated as a runtime version in MD-Premium.NET, thus providing access to the more than 100 pre-defined default reports.
Furthermore, HEINDL’s cash register system has been integrated into MD-Premium.NET. This system produces an alert if for example a shop runs out of a product at lunchtime. As a consequence, this product can be promptly ordered and is again available in the afternoon of the very same day.
Last but not least, MD-Premium.NET’s powerful Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solution offers HEINDL numerous opportunities for market development. The company uses the solution’s easy-to-use mailing system to send out newsletters which can be created, formatted and distributed via the software.
